The internal event “Cover Showcase” was held at COVER headquarters for its employees in late May 2026.
At Cover Showcase, booths are set up at the office for COVER employees to deepen their understanding of and experience the latest technologies and services COVER has to offer, fostering future business development. This article provides a detailed summary of the second edition of the event.
The first Cover Showcase session held in March 2025 featured a hands-on booth for “Captury1,” markerless motion capture technology that serves as the foundation for “Self Booth 3D(Japanese articles only).” As part of our vision for Self Booth 3D, this booth provided employees with an opportunity to actually experience its ease of use. A spatial reality display booth (see below), which featured in the first showcase, also offered employees an early-stage hands-on experience of the technology.
However, Cover Showcase does not merely deepen our understanding of services offered by COVER and cutting-edge initiatives adopted in our operations. It also serves as an opportunity to share insights with the entire production team by showcasing technologies currently in development, initiatives that address specific issues, and potential use cases to a wide range of employees, encouraging them to identify where such innovations could be used. The event also aims to create a strong bond among employees who do not usually have a chance to interact with one another.
This second edition of the Cover Showcase was organized following the positive reception of the first event. With more than double the number of exhibits and an increase in participants compared to the first time it was held, the event was a resounding success, with employees who had intended to work from home making the trip into the office just to take part. Next, we would like to highlight some of the featured exhibits.

Demonstration of the hololive App: A hands-on demo teaching you how to use the “hololive App”

This booth featured a hands-on demo of the “hololive app”2 that hololive talents use to stream from home. Equipped with facial and hand-tracking features, this app allows for precise adjustments to tracking parameters, but employees not directly involved with streaming rarely have a chance to use it. Therefore, this booth was a great opportunity for those unfamiliar with the app to experience how talents use the app when on stream by actually moving models themselves and trying out new features, such as one that was recently added allowing the camera angle to be adjusted so that models can be shown from their cutest side. Through in-house development, hololive is constantly adding detailed options based on our talents’ requests, and we are also working to secure the rights to our proprietary technology behind the “hololive app” through patent applications in order to continuously deliver COVER’s unique experiential value to users.

hololive VR Experience: A VR experience where talents are within arm’s reach

This technology was experimentally developed from the idea that hololive content and VR appear to be a great fit. This combination allows users to watch talents’ 3D videos as if they were in the same space, with users potentially able to wave a virtual penlight if a controller is connected. This technology has a wide range of promising use cases, depending on the content we create; for example, using it at a future event booth may enable us to provide experiences where visitors can interact with talents in real time.

An interactive hands-on spatial reality display3 demo with future applications in mind was the main feature of this booth, attracting a lot of interest from event participants. This display allows viewers to watch content in 3D (stereoscopic images) without wearing 3D glasses, and since viewers needed to be tracked by a camera, only one person was able to try it out at a time. While the image looks slightly blurred when one looks at it from the side of the display, standing front-on allows the viewer to see a clear stereoscopic image, and when one stands up while watching the screen, it looks as if they are looking down at the talent, and looking up at them when they crouch down, as if the talent is right there in front of them. This display also featured at the hololive production official shop in Harajuku, which opened in April 2026, to showcase special videos. While the display is a third-party product, the Technology Development Division develops software to suit the company’s needs. There is much to look forward to, as this could lead to a variety of unique hololive content only limited by our imagination.

The booth from the E-Commerce Operations Team showcased their system for selling official merchandise on our e-commerce site and delivering it to customers faster than ever before, aiming to respond systematically and promptly to fan enthusiasm for various projects, such as turning trending memes or illustrations drawn during streams into merchandise. The team’s goal is to constantly make hololive production OFFICIAL SHOP a place full of highly attractive merchandise for our fans.

Art Engineering Team Initiatives

Another booth that garnered a lot of attention was from the Art Engineering Team that provides cross-functional computer graphics support. The booth featured auxiliary tools, created by adding functions to the streaming app “OBS Studio,” provided to internal teams to enhance streaming activities, such as by attaching stickers to display logos or other images on the floor or exporting assets during video editing. A video introduced viewers to initiatives recently implemented or in development that aim to improve visual effects, including creating richer lighting effects for live music performances.

Development Team #3 Initiatives

This booth showcased efforts that mainly use Unreal Engine 4, and had a hands-on demo of new facial capture technology using the “Live Link Face” app5, with many employees amazed by the smooth facial movements it was able to generate. Previously, high-precision tracking typically relied on ARKit, which uses the built-in cameras on iPhones or other advanced cameras. With this app, however, users can be tracked using even inexpensive webcams. The technology on display and available to be experienced at this booth is still under development.

The Complete Guide to holo Indie!!

The holo Indie booth was also another major highlight from this year’s Cover Showcase. Not only were visitors able to try out holo Indie games that have been released on Steam, but it also included details such as interesting statistics regarding the games as well. They even held an “Infinite Mode Tournament” on the pulse-pounding inspection quiz game hologuard, where players become a rookie security guard at a hololive office and detect fake talents. Volunteers who were confident enough tried their hand at the game, with the winner with the most correct answers receiving a special certificate.

Other booths featured technology that recognizes real objects and links them with a stream, technology that tracks more subtle, nuanced body movements and facial expressions during streams, and a hands-on experience with applied technology using markerless motion capture. Many employees tried out, or listened to explanations on the new technology COVER has to offer, generating discussions surrounding its application.
As Cover Showcase is an event exclusively for COVER employees, the technologies and projects introduced may not always reach our talents or fans in the current form. However, this showcase allows for much deeper cross-departmental collaboration, and our technologies and initiatives to further evolve, which will eventually lead to quality improvements in talents’ streams and enable us to implement and share some of our technological advancements with you via future projects.
We hope that the technologies and services featured at Cover Showcase will continue to help enhance our talent activities, and that all of our wonderful fans will be able to experience them soon as well.
